Background
This document is the starting point for those ready to begin preparing content for sharing on ESRI’s Web GIS platform as implemented at Tall Timbers. The IT/GIS group manages access to the Organization’s ArcGIS Online (AGOL) account in ESRI’s Geospatial cloud environment (https://talltimbers.maps.arcgis.com/), as well as, maintains an ArcGIS Enterprise Portal (https://pinemaps.ttrsgis.org/portal/home/) configured with ESRI’s ArcGIS Enterprise (11.1) software. The Enterprise Portal is a key component in the Tall Timbers Geospatial Data Infrastructure (GDI) and functions as an on-premise implementation of ESRI’s AGOL environment. The Portal and AGOL sites are available as platforms for sharing data, services and applications related to Tall Timbers' core functions and responsibilities. These resources can be accessed internally and/or externally depending on need and configuration.
The GDI and AGOL Organization are web-based systems that are designed for collaboration and sharing. The systems are also shared environments as they allow multiple users, including the public, to log in, interact, create. and use content. It is important to understand the implications and responsibilities of working within such a collaborative, shared environment. Also, ESRI’s software licensing for Tall Timbers affords only a limited number of user accounts with privileges capable of creating and sharing content. Reading and working through the tasks and sites outlined below should illustrate these responsibilities.
